Connect2Art Project provides therapeutic and expressive art programs for individuals that are homeless, near homeless or in life crisis situations. Through these programs we intend to increase public awareness about the plight of homeless people by exhibiting their artwork in public spaces.

Working under master artist/teacher, Ron Gordon, a third mural was created with Connect2Art Project and Houston’s homeless at Star of Hope Men’s Development Center.  The mural is titled “Road to Freedom” and is on exhibition at Houston City Hall now through June 2013.

Painting the mural took roughly 2 ½ months.  During this time various Men from Star of Hope were involved in the process of learning to paint and execute the mural.  The original theme of the mural was to be “The Road Home”, but as the mural took shape and new thoughts were entered into the process, the mural became more about Freedom.  For these men, who have a tremendous amount of hope for a better future and for a new life to begin, expressing their desires to be free from homelessness and to soar to new beginnings was ultimately what they wanted to express.

Lead artist, Ron Gordon, has been awarded many public commissions including murals for the Houston Zoo’s Bird House and Koala Exhibit.
